The Globalization & Human Rights course is designed to provide senior students with a background understanding in the history of human rights, particularly in the post-World War II era, while focusing specifically on how the phenomenon of globalization has impacted human rights issues.
Human
Rights
Students examine three 20th century genocides (Armenian, Nazi,
and Rwandan) and the attempts by the international community to respond
to these crimes.
The
role of the Nuremberg Tribunals following World War II is discussed.
The emergence of non-governmental organizations with the protection of human rights as their purpose for existence is examined.
Globalization
The positive and negative effects of globalization are
discussed in the context of economic, political, social, and cultural
issues. In the process, students develop an expertise in one human
rights area of concern.
