Explanation:
The October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis nearly brought the U.S. and the Soviet Union to the point of war. The U.S. enforced a quarantine of ships approaching Cuba and engaged in intense diplomatic negotiations with the Soviets. At its conclusion, the Soviets withdrew offensive missiles and the U.S. agreed never to invade Cuba.
