In the 1832 nullification crisis

(A) Andrew Jackson supported the position of South Carolina
(B) Congress temporarily suspended tariffs throughout the U.S.
(C) South Carolina declared the tariffs of 1828 and 1832 to be unconstitutional and "null and void"
(D) John C. Calhoun in a famous toast, said "Our federal Union—it must and shall be preserved."
(E)  Calhoun resigned from the U.S. Senate and ran for vice-president so that he could more vigorously fight for states' rights
